Community Council

The Local Legislative Branch, the Community Councils, which are made up of community members, each have their own set of processes.

To allow community people to actively participate in local decision-making, the Nation Realm of Deliverance urges that the relevant nobility, while forming community councils, create them as comparable to direct democracy systems as possible. It is envisaged that noble pioneers and noble emissaries would confer with residents to determine the structure of the community council. A form of local government in which citizens decide on laws and policies locally rather than electing representatives.

Here's a breakdown of key aspects:

Direct Democracy Basics:

  • Citizen Participation:
Direct democracy emphasizes active involvement of all citizens in the political process.

  • Decision-Making:
Citizens directly vote on laws, policies, and other important decisions, rather than relying on elected officials to do so.

  • Examples:
Ancient Athenian democracy, Swiss Landsgemeinden (public assemblies), and modern-day referendums and initiatives.

Community Councils in Direct Democracy:

  • Local Focus:
Community councils are often used in smaller, local settings to facilitate direct democracy.

  • Town Hall Meetings:
These provide a platform for residents to discuss issues, propose solutions, and vote on local matters.

  • Referendums and Initiatives:
Citizens can propose and vote on specific laws or policies (initiatives), or vote on laws passed by a council (referendums).

  • Open Councils:
In some small Spanish municipalities, a system called "concejo abierto" allows all electors to participate in a neighborhood assembly alongside a mayor.

Benefits of Direct Democracy in a Community Council:

  • Increased Accountability: Elected officials are more directly accountable to the citizens they represent.

  • Greater Citizen Engagement: Direct involvement fosters a more engaged and informed citizenry.

  • Policy Relevance: Decisions are more likely to reflect the needs and preferences of the local community.
